G: Jalen Jackson (JR)
Height/Weight: 6’2”/200 lbs.
Previous School: Purdue Fort Wayne
2024-25 Stats: 19.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.6 SPG, 48.4% FG
Offensive Impact
More of a rim reliant PG. 27-103 from 3 last season.
Has shown he can shoot it better than that but not something Butler can rely on.
Projects to be much better when playing in transition as well.
Smooth floater game against drop coverage, good feel overall in pick and roll.
Opposing defenses can go under most screens and turn him into a perimeter shotmaker, which limits his ability as a playmaker.
Good size for a PG, rim scoring ability should translate to the Big East. 63.4% FG at the rim on 5.9 attempts per game last season (99th percentile in rim frequency, per CBB Analytics).
Gets to the line at a high clip for a guard (47.4% free throw rate). 76% FT percentage last season.
More of a scoring mentality, which I am not sure I necessarily love due to his lack of shooting.
Vision as a passer isn’t elite for his position either.
Overall, I am concerned about the lack of scoring versatility and the fact that Jackson is not a true point guard with great playmaking instincts, but his physicality will be tough to handle for smaller Big East guards.
Defensive Impact
Good combo of size and speed. Defends fairly well in isolation.
Good ball screen navigator for a PG due to his size.
Fits Thad Matta’s defensive system well. Can defend in space and can’t be picked out in mismatches.
