G: Lamar Wilkerson (SR)
Height/Weight: 6’5”/205 lbs.
Previous School: Sam Houston State
2024-25 Stats: 20.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 2.1 APG, 44.5% 3pt
Offensive Impact
One of the most efficient perimeter shotmakers in the nation. Nearly 45% from 3 last season on extremely high volume (226 attempts).
Wilkerson can score on the perimeter in a multitude of ways, whether that is in the pick and roll game, off screens, or in spot up situations.
70th percentile in pick and roll scoring efficiency.
76th percentile in off screen scoring efficiency.
88th percentile in spot up scoring efficiency.
Efficient off the bounce and off the catch. This will allow him to play multiple roles within the Indiana offense, and there will not be too much pressure on him within any particular role due to the shooting threats he will be playing with next season (DeVries, Goode, Miles)
42.6% off the dribble from 3, 44.6% off the catch from 3.
Capable of scoring in the mid-range area as well. 37.2% on nearly 3 mid-range attempts per game.
Hasn’t looked to score at the rim throughout his career (86 rim attempts last season) but has shown efficiency in this area as well. 60% at the rim and shows some burst and physicality to maintain this rate in the Big Ten to an extent. Rim scoring won’t be the make or break in terms of being able to translate his game to power conference basketball.
When playing on the ball, he clearly has a scoring mentality. He Is always hunting his shot on the perimeter or in the mid-range.
Has shown the ability to pass out of P&R, but he isn’t making any high-level reads. His quick release off the bounce and ability to score on the move allows him to be efficient in P&R.
Struggles a bit in isolation due settling for contested jumpers and not getting downhill. Not super crafty either.
Can initiate offense if needed, but he appears to be better suited as a secondary playmaker, where he can be one of the best combo guards in the Big Ten.
We most likely won’t see Wilkerson averaging 20+ PPG at Indiana, but at the very least he will be a great complementary player on the offensive end due to his shot making prowess. 15-17 PPG isn’t out of the realm of possibility because he is a multi-dimensional shot maker, but there are other players on this roster who can handle the on-ball duties.
Defensive Impact
Not very active on the glass. 9.9% DREB rate last season. This isn’t anything to be too concerned about, but if Indiana also lacks rebounding in the frontcourt, it would be nice for a guard or 2 to be able to help out on the glass if need be.
Average athlete, average size for a 2 guard. Doesn’t move the needle on this end.
Wilkerson isn’t necessarily the perfect defender for a Darian DeVries coached team that will put some responsibility on his perimeter to be great defending in isolation, but he certainly won’t be a liability. Consider him a slightly above average defender when guarding 1s and 2s.
