G: Sean Newman (JR)

Height/Weight: 6’1”/165 lbs.

Previous School: Louisiana Tech

2024-25 Stats: 9.9 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 7.9 APG, 38.6% FG, 3.0 TOPG

Offensive Impact

  • High assist/high turnover rate. 41.8% AST, 24.5% TO. Volatile player overall.

  • Great passer and knows how to operate in pick and roll as a facilitator.

    • 72nd percentile in points per possession, 98th percentile frequency in all PNR handler possessions, per Synergy.

    • Can be a solid true PG with adequate spacing, but not sure he will get that. Efficiency drops when forced to be a scorer.

  • Pressure bothers him, not a great handle for a primary guard.

    • Picks up the ball when blitzed way too often.

  • Has the ability to score at all 3 levels (for a PG) but prefers to probe and wait to make a play for others, leading to the high assist and turnover rate.

  • High risk/High reward. Don’t like the fit if he needs to be the primary PG and the shooting on the wing is similar to last season.

Defensive Impact

  • Size and length fit the mold for an Aztec PG.

  • -1.7 DBPM last season for a solid LA Tech defense, per Torvik. Worst on the team in that category by a decent margin.

  • Not super active or laterally quick for a PG. Not very physical either.

  • Believe he is a better defender than what he’s shown (and he needs to be to get playing time from coach Dutcher), and his high usage offensive role could make him slightly worse on D.

Overall Grade: C-
