G: Honor Huff (JR)

Height/Weight: 5’10”/168 lbs.

Previous School: West Virginia

2024-25 Stats: 15.2 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.9 SPG, 41.6% 3pt

Offensive Impact

  • Huff is a smaller guard that actually profiles better off the ball. He will be generating almost all of his offensive value as a 3 point shot creator, whether that is through spot up situations, off screens, or generating his own perimeter offense off the bounce.

    • Huff will be an emphasis on every opposing defense’s scouting report due to his deep range, quick shot release, and shiftiness on the perimeter.

    • Was most frequently used in the spot up game while at Chattanooga (81st percentile frequency, 97th percentile in scoring efficiency).

      • Highly efficient in catch and shoot (40.2% 3pt), but his shot fake is also well respected and can relocate to dribble a pull up off it when defenders fly by.

    • Huff is a little less comfortable shooting off screens but is still efficient, and defenders have a tough time chasing him around the floor due to his quickness.

    • Has a real knack for relocating to another spot on the 3 point line when defenders overplay him. Makes himself available for open looks on kick out 3’s as well. Underrated skill to have and Huff is great at it.

  • Huff’s impact on the offensive end takes a dip when operating inside the arc. Attempted just 82 2 point shots compared to 298 3’s last season.

    • Smaller/weaker guard and doesn’t initiate contact well around the rim. Trying to draw fouls could be more of a path to interior offense for him if he seeked contact.

    • Below average touch in the paint for a PG and isn’t very comfortable with his floater game. Most of Huff’s rim scoring comes from back cuts and dribble blow bys on the open side of the floor.

    • Mid range game is sort of an unknown factor due to the lack of attempts in Dan Earl’s offensive system. Can most likely be a factor as a mid range shot creator in some capacity vs drop coverage.

  • Even though Huff is small, he is not a true PG. Lacks the creative passing skills to be a true offensive hub for West Virginia. 13.4% assist rate in his 3 year career.

    • His ability to make plays for others comes from an above average burst off the dribble. Gets into the lane rather easily and dishes when he draws help.

  • Huff can certainly be a problem for some Big 12 defenses, but the inability to score at all 3 levels caps his ceiling and ability to be a hub for an above average Big 12 offense. The versatile perimeter skills will allow Huff’s game to translate from mid-major basketball just fine, but he is most likely not a breakout superstar.

Defensive Impact

  • Limited impact as a defender due to his lack of size and physicality.

    • Doesn’t contest shots well because of his 5’10” frame.

    • Is knocked out of position often and applies almost zero resistance when he’s not in front of his man. The offensive player can simply initiate some contact to create space when guarded by Huff.

  • 1.9% career steal rate isn’t fantastic for a guard his size, but his 2.7% steal rate in 2023-24 creates some optimism. Ross Hodge can potentially bring the best out of Huff in this area.
